Midland Pipes and Drums-Home-Midland Pipes and Drums
We have launched this brand new website to help YOU find US!
The Midland Pipes and Drums was formed in 1970. We are affiliated with the Branch 80 Royal Canadian Legion - Midland, ON. Midland Pipes and Drums perform throughout the year (See Events and Parades pages) in Midland and neighbouring communities. If you would like to book the band for an event or are looking for a solo piper for your event, visit our "Contact Us" page and we will do our best to accommodate you.
We wear a Wallace Tartan and a military style uniform. In 2018, our band designed a new crest which reflects this tartan, our Legion affiliation and our pride in serving Canada. You will also see the initials of "JM" - this is a tribute to the late Jim Malcolm, one of the founding members and a long time Drum Major for the band. Our band has almost 50 years of tradition in this community.
Our band practices every Monday evening between 6:30-9:00 pm, in the upstairs room of the Midland Legion (located on Queen Street). Practice usually involves time on the practice chanters and drum pads, followed by a business meeting at 8:00 pm, followed by rehearsal time on the pipes and drums. There are no practices during the month of August, 2019.
New members are always welcome. Our band is almost 30 members big. Experienced players who are looking for a home band are welcome to drop by and try us out. We are not a competitive band, but we do like to challenge ourselves with new tunes, along with some old standards.
If you would like to learn the bagpipes or the drums, you are welcome as well. Be aware that learning a new instrument takes time and a regular commitment. We have some excellent volunteers who are willing to work with "students", however, their efforts deserve your effort. If you are interested in learning, you need to be willing to make a weekly commitment to your lesson time on Monday nights. Should you develop to a certain standard, the band will provide you with the uniform and equipment needed to join in with the band on parade. This is all at no cost to you - just your time and effort.
